WILLIAM TERENCE SHANNON Longtime resident of Riverside passed away in Oceanside of congestive heart failure on January 30. He was 83. Born in Corona, he served his country during the Korean War as a yeoman in the United States Navy. After graduating from San Diego State University, Mr. Shannon worked for the County of Riverside's probation department for more than 30 years. A devoted father and loving grandfather, Mr. Shannon's family was his pride, their happiness his joy. He spent a long and active retirement as an eager and enthusiastic spectator at countless soccer games, theater productions, recitals, marathons, graduations, weddings, and so much more. Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor as well as genuine kindness and compassion, he was treasured by family & friends alike. Mr. Shannon was preceded in death by his parents William and Pauline, and siblings Patricia, Mary, John, and Larry. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; children Kathleen Thomas (Jim), Joan Hansen (Jim), John (Lisa), David (Adrienne), and Robert; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Colleen, Mark, Kevin, Katherine, Mary, Caitlin, Laura, Ryan, and four great grandchildren, Kara, Joy, Elizabeth, Adeline. The family will hold a private celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the .
