Willys Alice Henning Obituary
WILLYS ALICE HENNING Longtime Riverside resident, Willys Alice Henning, 86, passed away on February 10, 2013 in Gig Harbor, Washington. She was born on October 23, 1926 in Inwood, Iowa to Cornelius and Alice (Fiekema) Van Driel. She attended Calvin College before obtaining her degree as a Registered Nurse at Sioux Valley Hospital where she worked during the polio epidemic. In 1950 she married Airman Glen E. Henning Jr. and was stationed at Lincoln, Nebraska; Tehran, Iran; and Tacoma, Washington. Upon returning to Riverside in 1964 she resumed her career in nursing while continuing to raise her family. Willys was deeply involved with Magnolia Presbyterian Church throughout her time in Riverside. After retiring she remained active in her nursing organization and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Besides her parents Willys was preceded in death by her husband Glen in 1976, and brother Erwin. She is survived by her children, Michele (Michael) Alazard of Las Vegas; Michael Henning of Corona; Margaret (Rob) Farber of Gig Harbor; grandson Ryan; sisters, Joyce Dykstra and Marjorie Myers; brother, Claude (Verna) Van Driel as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Willys' life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service on Monday, March 4, at 10:00 am at Magnolia Presbyterian Church, with an internment following at Riverside National Cemetery. She will be remembered for her easy laughter and generous spirit. Her love of family and God sustained her throughout her life.
