Wilma H. Maxton Obituary
WILMA H. MAXTON, 84, died on August 8, 2014 in Menifee, CA from pancreatic cancer. Before moving to Southern CA in 1995, she lived in the Montclair area of Oakland, CA for 40 years. She was born in San Mateo, CA on July 14, 1930 to the late Dan and Del Harrington. In high school, she attended private boarding schools and graduated from Miss Hewitt's Classes in New York City in 1948. While attending Carnegie Technological College, she met the late John R. Maxton, a former submariner in the U.S. Navy. They wed on August 11, 1950 and were married for 38 years. She was a widow for 25 years. Willie was a homemaker and dearly loved by all in her family. She made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ later in her life. Her two older sisters Barbara Murray and Lyn Harrington preceded her in death. She was the last of the "matriarchs" for her generation in our family. Willie is survived and loved by her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Sharon Maxton of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Jonathan (Kaaren) Maxton of Minneapolis, MN; Eric (Heather) Maxton of Atlanta, GA; and Jacquelyn Maxton of Los Angeles, CA; her great granddaughter, Berit C. Maxton; her sister, Gale (Marty) Bitter of Menlo Park, CA; six nieces, Delanne (Erik) Marcussen of Tustin, CA; Kathie (Don) Schaer of Temecula, CA; Laura (Nick) Allegretti of Reno, NV; Dee Dee (Dan) Clinton of Boulder Creek, CA; Frances (Pat) Burke of Clayton, CA; Lisa (David) Abramson of San Francisco, CA; and three nephews, Phil (Carol) Russell of Yorktown Heights, NY, Verne (Melody) Murray of Diablo, CA and Jason (Kristy) Friedrichs of San Francisco, CA; and her cousin Patty (Bill) Waggoner of Altadena, CA. Many other friends and family are mourning her passing also. A memorial service is being held at Calvary Hills Church, 29697 New Hub Rd., Suite B, Menifee, CA 92586 on Saturday, August 16th at 11 AM. An interment is planned later in September at the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary in Oakland, CA. Willie will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her constant love, independent spirit, wise counsel, courageous attitude, refined sense of style, immaculate housekeeping and providing a place of refuge for us in times of need. She will be dearly missed by all of us!
