Wilma Jane Maughan Obituary
WILMA JANE MAUGHAN passed away peacefully, surrounded by family members on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. Wilma was born on January 13, 1925 and was the fourth of six children of Dan and Nellie Friedly. She is survived by her beloved children: Pam, Skip, Ellen, and Terri, their spouses: Ken, Shirley, Steve, and Wally, sister Beverly, 7 grandchildren, Von, Marty, Lora, Janis, Jeff, Jackie and Garrett, 7 great grandchildren, many wonderful nieces and nephews, and all of their extended families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Frieda, Mildred, Harry, Dan, her infant son Christopher, and her best friend and husband, Lavon Maughan Jr. Much of her childhood was spent traveling through California harvesting fruit. She attended Lynwood High School, where she met the love of her life, Lavon (Von). They married in 1942 and had 52 wonderful years before his death in 1994. They lived in the Norwalk area until moving to Bellflower in 1962, where Von set up his Chiropractic office. She was active in the LDS church, having many callings. She loved working with young people and built that love into a career, first at the Huntington Park YWCA and finally as job placement counselor at Cerritos College, where she retired after 27 years. Wilma loved traveling and visited Europe, Egypt, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska. She left Bellflower after Von's death to be nearer to her daughter, Pam, in Moreno Valley. She thrived in Moreno Valley with the love and support of her church family, and the care and devotion of her family and her longtime caregiver Miyuki "Kiki", and new friend Wanda. Wilma leaves behind many life-long friends who will remember her best for her loving, kind, and feisty personality. She was 91 years young. Services will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 9:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11790 Perris Blvd. in Moreno Valley, CA. The viewing will be held from 9:00am- 9:30am. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier.
