RUTH STEPHENSON (aka Wilma Ruth Stephenson) Born August 16, 1929 Died April 20, 2013 The family of Ruth Stephenson sadly announce her death on April 20, 2013. She was born in Okeene, Oklahoma and resided in Oklahoma until she graduated high school from Enid, Oklahoma in 1946 and married "Steve" Stephenson in 1947 and they moved to Wellington, Kansas. He worked for the ATSF railroad and his career moved them to many places along the railroad line. They eventually retired and moved to Riverside, California in 1980. She was primarily a housewife for the majority of her life. She did, however, worked in Boeing in Wichita, Kansas on an assembly line making aircraft until 1951. And she proudly worked as a teletype operator for the ATSF railroad in Wellington, Kansas from 1956 through June 1965. She worked for State Farm Insurance in Topeka, Kansas for about 4 years as an office assistant until their retirement and move to California in 1980. She spent the remainder of her life making a home for and caring for her husband until 2010 and lived with her daughter Vicki until her death on Saturday, April 20, 2013. She is survived by daughter Kathy Burinda and her husband Richard of Grand Junction, Colorado; daughter Vicki Garcia and her husband Ernie of Riverside, California. She had two grandchildren, Stephanie Hagen with her husband Bruce of Grand Junction, Colorado and Amber Desormeau with her husband Eric of Columbia, Virginia. She had 4 great grandchildren Courtney Hays and Joshua Hays, both of Grand Junction, Colorado and Abigail and Aubrey Desormeau, both of Columbia, Virginia. Stephanie and Bruce gave Ruth two step grandchildren Jesse and Melissa and a great great granddaughter Sammantha, all from Grand Junction. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Mary Stewart of Wichita, Kansas. She also leaves behind numerous much loved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews in places all over the country. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Richard Stephenson (November 10, 2010); her father Elmer Floyd Stewart (1951) and her mother Nellie Mae Terrell Stewart (December 1961). She had 3 brothers Glen Stewart, Jim Stewart and John Stewart. Her sisters-in-law Margaret Stewart and Ruby Stewart are both deceased. She married Lloyd Stephenson on June 1, 1947 and moved to Wellington, Kansas until their first move in 1965. She was involved in Kansas State PTA, and square dancing clubs in both Wellington and Topeka. They belonged to a camping club and loved traveling. She adored her grandchildren and loved hard candy and lottery scratchers. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed taking painting classes. She was an avid reader and did needlework as a hobby. Services will be held at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary on Thursday, April 25 at 1pm. Viewing is Wednesday, April 24 from 6 to 8 pm. She will be sorely missed and genuinely loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
