Ysidro "Apa" Acosta Obituary
YSIDRO "APA" ACOSTA went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2015 at the age of 93. He was born on May 15, 1921 in Zacatecas, Mexico. He married his sweetheart Maria "Ama" Arellano on February 9, 1945. His life was marked by an excellent work ethic; this was easily recognized by all who knew him. He was part of the bracero program in the 1940s and worked in agriculture throughout California until he settled in Hemet in 1969. There, he and his "mujer" (wife) Maria raised their six children. He was an expert citrus grafter and worked hard until June 2004. He became a US citizen in 1996 and proudly hung the American flag in front of his house, where it flew until he moved to Lodi in 2006. For that move, all he cared to take was his bandera (American flag) and his mujer (Maria, his wife). He loved the Lord and his family very much. He also enjoyed playing tricks and always kept himself and his family laughing. His hospitable, generous, and entertaining nature made others feel loved and cared for; he always sought to live life to the fullest. He was often laughing and very much enjoyed physical comedies and adored the movie Home Alone. He was preceded in death by one daughter Yolanda and two sons Armando and Al. He is survived by his wife Maria and his 5 children: Jose Acosta and his wife Mimi of Hemet, CA; Lisa Allert and her husband Bob of Hemet, CA; Blanca Fairchild and her husband John of Lodi, CA; Y Acosta and his wife Cynthia of Acampo, CA; and Mella Yarbrough and her husband Mike of Lodi, CA. He has 10 grandchildren Melissa and her husband John Yarbrough, Aimee and her husband Keith Still, Robbie Allert, Charlie and his wife Lisa Fairchild, Shai Picchiottino, Adriana Acosta, Jake Yarbrough, Alexis Acosta, Braden Acosta, and Shelby Yarbrough. He also had 7 great-grandchildren Peyton Yarbrough, Cooper Yarbrough, Ezra Olguin, Lydia Yarbrough, Angelie Fairchild, Jude Fairchild, and Emery Still. He eagerly anticipated the arrival of his 8th great-grandchild, a baby girl. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to his dear family friend and caretaker Yolanda Rios, who provided generous, loving care to Apa and Ama. Viewing was held on January 8 at Cherokee Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way. A memorial service was held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Lodi, 267 N. Mills Avenue. A reception followed the service. A graveside service will be held at San Jacinto Valley Cemetery in San Jacinto, CA on Monday, January 12 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anne's Church PO Box 480, Lodi, CA 95241 or First Baptist Church of Lodi 267 North Mills Ave. Lodi, CA 95242.
