Jon Patrick Ployhar

1966 - 2015

Jon Patrick Ployhar, longtime Sterling resident, was killed by Alaska State Troopers on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 after a minor traffic violation. He was 49.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015 at the Sterling Community Center, 38377 Swanson River Road in Sterling.
Jon was born Feb. 17, 1966 in Spokane, Washington. Jon spent the early years of his life in Washington, Alaska, Arizona, and Oregon. Jon settled in Sterling with his father in the early 1980s and began his lifetime of work here. Jon was a longtime oil field worker for many years of the top corporation in Alaska. He truly enjoyed being a Roughneck, and was admired by his co-workers for his unending work ethic.
John had many hobbies, he was an avid fisherman, snowmobiler, motorcycle rider, skier, and was very fond of the summertime on the Kenai Peninsula. During his time when he was not working you could always find Jon doing something in the Sterling area. Anyone who knew Jon would agree that he was always trying to help out somebody. Jon was a local hero and fixture to many in Sterling, no matter what they needed, Jon was quick to drop his personal projects for anyone who needed help. Jon was an active member of the Sterling Brotherhood, and will always be remembered by many as the one who went into the river to retrieve a thief who had been cornered by the local Brotherhood members. Jon was also a member of the Ministries of the Living Stones congregation, and found fellowship and friendship there. He truly had his life on the right path and it was unfortunately cut short by an overzealous rookie Trooper.
He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Glen Ployhar; sister, Susan Grace Muskthel; and mother, Alice Ployhar who died Nov. 15, 2015.
Jon is survived by sister, Marti Ruth Delimont of Anchorage; and brother, Kent Elmer Ployhar of Mulege Baja California Sur, Mexico. Jon also had numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He will be missed by all that had the pleasure to have known him. John will also be missed by his many friends all over Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Arizona.
