Patricia Nikolas Obituary

Patricia Kay Nikolas passed away of congestive heart failure at Central Peninsula Hospital on September 12, 2018 with her husband by her side.

Patricia was born in Penrose, Colorado on September 12, 1939. She graduated from Oakridge High School in Oakridge, Oregon in 1957. Patricia continued to live in Oregon where she married and had three children. In 1970 she and her three children moved to Soldotna, Alaska, where she went to work at her parents' grocery store, called B & B, until it was sold in 1975 and she married VJ "Nik" Nikolas. She drove a school bus for a short time, and soon after that she decided she needed a career and went to work as an insurance agent at The Insurance Cache in Soldotna for 17 years. After retiring, Patricia volunteered at Hooks and Ladders Pull Tabs raising money for local nonprofits such as the Shriners and the Men's bowling association for 14 years.
Patricia loved bowling. She bowled on several different leagues for more than 40 years. Some of her best memories were from bowling tournaments across Alaska, and traveling to national tournaments. She was also a founding member of Soldotna's local Red Hats Society group. She loved to travel. She and her husband have had a timeshare in Mexico since 1991 that she shared with many of her friends and family.
Patricia was always busy spending time with her family and friends at home. There were many late nights at her house just talking, visiting, and, above all, laughing. Patricia will be remembered and missed by all those she touched.
Patricia is survived by her husband, VJ "Nik" Nikolas; her son, David Johnson of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; her daughter, Kathy Nikolas of Hila, Hawaii; her sisters Doylene (Lanny) DeVer, Kathleen Jowers; and her brother Doyle Jowers of Priest River, Idaho. Her grandchildren: Rebecca Axtell of Valdez, Alaska; Emily Axtell of Wasilla, Alaska; Jamie Johnson; Cody (Amanda) Johnson; and Jason Johnson of Sherwood, Oregon; and Katie Johnson of Federal Way, Washington; Nathan Birchfield; Alexx (Crystal) Nikolas; and Travis Nikolas of Soldotna, Alaska.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents Doyle and Kate Jowers, her son, Mark Johnson, and her daughter Loretta Axtell and grandsons Garrett Nikolas and Skyler Nikolas.
There will be a memorial service on Tuesday September 25, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge in Ridgeway next to Alyeska Tires, with a potluck to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the AI Aska Shrine Children's Transportation Fund.
Arrangements made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Please visit or sign her online guestbook at AlaskanFuneral.com.

I am so sorry Nik! My sincere condolences. You and Pat were the first people to come to our apartment the day after we arrived in Kenai, to welcome us to Alaska. What a mess you found us in, but I'll always remember the warm welcome and friendship you gave us! R.I.P. Pat. Sheila Holtzen
