John Grant Magee Jr.

1940 - 2018

John passed away peacefully in the early morning at his home in Sequim. His wife Bobbie and best friend Maxx (the dog) were at his side. John had suffered from a progressively debilitating form of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for several years.

Raised in suburban Philadelphia, he graduated from the Episcopal Academy and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Following college, he entered the United States Air Forces. John's career as a Computer Services Systems Analyst took him from General's Aide at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, Director of Data Systems for Playboy Magazine, Systems Development Team Leader for the U.S. Space Shuttle Program to Director of Systems for the State of Alaska.

Throughout his life, John's love and passion for literature, spirituality, books and the arts lead to other avocations. He became a Practitioner in The Church of Religious Science. He wrote and directed original theatre in Chicago briefly. After earning a Masters Degree in Library Science, from The University of Southern California, he became the Chief Librarian at Ernest Holmes College Library, Los Angeles. During these years, his marriages to Jean Scott and Carol McClennahan ended in divorce.

John met his wife Bobbie in Portland, Oregon, nearly 25 years ago. They wilderness camped and biked in British Columbia, Vancouver Island, the San Juan Islands and Cascades. He was an avid golfer, reader and garage sale junky. In 2004, the couple chose Sequim as their retirement home.

John is survived by Bobbie; his daughter, Jennifer and her husband Dr. Ron Lohner; four grandchildren; sister, Kathleen and husband Robert Jaunich II; three nephews; brother, Peter Magee; four step-children and nine step-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held after the holidays.
