Dennis Kendig Obituary

Greg Kendig, husband, father, friend and musician, departed this earth on August 3, 2018.
Born in Hershey on March 24, 1950, Greg grew up in Palmyra and graduated from the Palmyra High School Class of 1968. After graduation from computer technology training, Greg began his working career, primarily with the former AMP Corporation and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
But it was not Greg's work that defined him, it was his music. For over fifty years, from the time he first heard the Beatles' music and then taught himself to play on a $20 electric guitar to the last moments of his life, Greg never lost his passion for writing music and playing, singing and performing, whether it was a solo act or as a member of many musical groups over the decades. He took special joy in performing and recording with his wife, Leanne, in the acoustic duo Autumn Brew, and also in singing with the famed R&B band Class Act Featuring Rita. Greg was even requested and honored to play and sing at an Inaugural Breakfast and private birthday party of Governor Tom Ridge. As an organ donor, a successful direct donation was made to a family friend.
Greg was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harold Henry Kendig and Veronica Schewkun Kendig of Palmyra. In addition to his loving wife Leanne of Landisville, he is survived by son Ryan Kendig of Philadelphia, daughter Morgan Kendig of Collegeville, brother Harry Kendig and wife Stacey of Hagertown, MD, sister Judy Arnold and husband William of The Villages, FL, niece Tara Kendig Jones of Lakeland, FL, nephew Zachary Arnold of Wildwood, FL, great nieces Kendall Jones and Ryleigh Jones and great nephew Kolby Jones all of Lakeland, FL.
A memorial Celebration of Greg's Life will be held at 4:00 PM August 17, 2018 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 40 West Pine Street, Palmyra preceded by a visitation from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the rescue organization that Greg's beloved canine soulmate Duffy was adopted from: Barktown Dog Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc., 100 Eagles Landing #310, Jasper, GA 30143.
Greg was wonderfully kind, generous, fun and fun-loving. Those of us who knew and loved him will never get over our loss. But his music remains.

To the family of Greg Kendig, please accept my sincere sympathy on their loss. Too young. Too soon. But resting now in peace. Greg was so kind, caring, and considerate. He was always at ease in any situation. And he also had and shared his wit at times! His talent needn't be justified. He had it. My condolences to all who loved him. I was fortunate to know him.

Greg was a PHS Classmate of mine who was a very special, talented, loving person that I will never forget. It has been great reconnecting with him during the past few months planning our 50th Class Reunion. You will be missed a lot Greg. ❤

Greg was a school buddy of mine and later became best friends to my brother. What a great guy! Greg got better and better in song. Loved the bluesy voice. Leanne completed Greg in song and marriage. To the family... When you are sorrowful look again into your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

I met Greg in the early 70's when we started our Information Systems careers at AMP Incorporated of Harrisburg. Greg was always fun loving and a truly great friend. Arna and I (as well as coworkers) would go to many different places, like the Salty Dawg in Hershey to hear Greg sing songs from the Beatles, Eagles, James Taylor and more. Those were great memories and great times. We are glad and very fortunate that Greg was part of our life. He would make us smile and you could always tell that music was his preferred career. He gave me a CD of Autumn Brew about a year or so ago and we played it the day we learned of his passing. Our condolences go out to Leanne and Greg's entire family. RIP Greg, you were a great musician and will certainly be missed by your many friends.

I was not a personal friend of Greg but knew his work as an outstanding singer and musician. I loved seeing and hearing him perform, always with that little twinkle in his eye. His love of music, his family and friends will never be forgotten.
