Richard J. Garbacik, 88, of Camp Hill, PA would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received a "call" on April 9, 2020, for his next assignment, the kind of call you can't refuse. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family, friends and pets he has not seen in a long time. The son of the Frank and Nellie (Skitzki) Garbacik, Richard was born on July 9th, 1931 in Hazleton, PA. Richard received his Bachelor's degree and Masters of Administration from Penn State University. He is a US Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War. Richard was a retired Electrical Engineer from the Naval Ship Engineering Center in Mechanicsburg, and a Registered Professional Engineer. He was a member of the Church of The Good Shepherd in Camp Hill and St. Patrick's Cathedral in Harrisburg, Camp Hill American Legion Post 43, Lower Allen Township, VFW Post 7530, The Engineering Society of PA, and Carlisle Fish and Game Assoc. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from "The Candy Man," among them: Let people know that you are "Perfect in Every Way just like them." Also, don't take fashion cues from anyone! And, no matter how bad things get, "It's just a temporary inconvenience." Richard was a very generous man, even with wildlife. He fed the deer in his backyard on a nightly basis and he took pride in watching them frolic and the effect it had on those passing by. He is survived by his close friends whom he considered daughters, Dr. Lee Morand (boyfriend Jerry Tarud) and Paige Pynos, all from Camp Hill, PA. Among his many friends, best friend Dick Jones, Annie and Marie Hine-Bernard, Kieran, Tom, and Jenna Cavrich. Due to the health concerns of COVID-19, a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd will be planned for a later date. Rich was such a wonderful man (period). Such a loving person to all. We are saddened that he is gone, but find solace that he will be with Ray and his family and friends. Thank you for caring so much about the Shriners Hospitals children--I enjoyed listening to you and learning from you.

Uncle Richard was the kindest and most thoughtful man. He was so generous to me and the rest of our family. Receiving his cards in the mail always made my day. His strong work ethic had inspired many in our family. I am holding on dearly to everything he has hand written to us over the years. My mom (his niece) and I were just discussing after a recent call with him how we should try to join him for a Penn State football game in the fall. He loved that school. You will be very missed Uncle Richard!! We love you very much & appreciate all you have done for us over the years. Rest In Peace.

Dick was a much loved and esteemed friend of the Lovetts since I was a kid, and his birth into eternal life, glorious for him, saddens me profoundly. He and my dad became pals at the Navy Depot when my dad was an officer and later a civilian there and their friendship endured for many decades. Dick and Betty visited here often and shared happy times when my father was homebound. Dick was with my dad every day of his final weeks in the hospital until his passing in 2005. Dick was such a loyal, faithful, and loving friend to my dad! Our friendship continued for these past 15 years. He always had time for me and was such a good listener and a wise advisor. I gleaned all I could from his brilliant mind. He came down to my level when discussing world and political affairs during our many lunches together while he simultaneously passed candy to the servers. Dick's kindness, compassion, and generosity blessed many, sometimes anonymously. His humbleness belied his intelligence and accomplishments. His kindness to animals was endearing. I loved and respected him and will miss him until we meet again. Rest in peace my dear friend! You are mourned and loved by many!

I will miss seeing Richard at the Harrisburg Consistory, Harrisburg, PA, where he was such a good example to everyone, where he always had a smile, kind words to everyone and he enjoyed the fellowship with everyone. I'm so glad that I was lucky to say he was a very good friend and will be missed. His generosity was over and above for anyone that was in need. We will miss seeing Rich outside walking Katie. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. Rich was always staying active with some project around the house, which is a lesson for all of us; to just keep moving no matter how old you are.
