Navid Garshasb Obituary

NAVID "G" GARSHASB

1964-2013

Navid "G" Garshasb passed away on September 04, 2013. After an operation to remove a brain tumor in 2003, the doctors gave him only months to live. During the past 10 years, he continually proved the medical diagnosis wrong and showed his will and determination to survive. However, after recovering from two strokes, in November 2011 and most recently in January 2013, as well as battling a rare blood disorder since 2011, G finally lost his final fight. Navid leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Joani, his two sons Shahine (Shawn) and Andrew (Andy), as well as his mother Pari, brother Masoud and sister, Farideh. Navid grew up in Shiraz, Iran, moving to the U.S. in 1978 at the age of 12. He attended Nottingham High School and entered the Air Force in October 1986 where he spent nineteen years, and was medically discharged in 2005. After his medical retirement, Navid and Joani made their permanent home in Navarre, FL. A trusted volunteer of the Navarre United Methodist Church, Navid was baptized Christian in 2006. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, September 23, 2013, at the Hurlburt Field Chapel. Full military honors will follow at Hurlburt Field Airpark.

An additional Memorial Service will be held at 6 PM, Monday, Sept.23rd, at the Navarre United Methodist Church with Rev. Alan Cassady officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the "We Care" food pantry at Navarre United Methodist Church, 9474 Navarre Pkwy., Navarre, FL 32566, Ph.850.939.1005.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Navid ““G”“ Garshasb our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for ““G”“. And to ““G”“ it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country while serving in the U.S. Air Force. ““G”“, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, Generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to ““G's”“ family and loved ones.

Joani and Boys,
I was so deeply saddened to learn of Gorbie's passing. However, I was not surprised to learn of the great man he became. After all, he was first a great "Dirt Boy"! I am so proud to say I served with him. I carry many fond memories of him. His smile was infectious, his dedication unparalleled and his devotion to all of you so true. May God Bless you and give you peace in your time of sorrow.

Dear Joani, Shawn, Andy and the rest of the family. Navid was a true hero in every sense of the word. As an airman he saved lives, as a husband, father, and friend he showed all of us what it truly meant to be courageous...and that is to keep moving forward and fighting the good fight when faced with fear and adversity. He is pain free and in Heaven now but he will be missed by all of us. I love you Joani and I'm sorry I couldn't be there with you.
