John A. "Jack" Parkin Obituary
John A. "Jack" Parkin

Cary, NC - 11/11/1938 - 9/29/2018 - John A. "Jack" Parkin passed away on September 29, 2018 at Duke University Hospital.

Born in Stamford, Connecticut, Jack was the only child of Evelyn and Arthur Parkin. He is survived by his wife, E. L. "Betsy" Smith and his four children, Nancy Charlton, Eric Parkin, Scott Parkin and Debbie Lilley, and several nieces and nephews. Jack adored his 13 grandchildren and was thrilled to know that his first great-grandchild was due in December 2018.

Jack was a man of many stories and one of his favorite pastimes was to regale us with exploits from his time as a Morse Code Operator in the Navy in the late 1950's. After his time in the service Jack worked for the U.S. Post Office, Perkin-Elmer and Western Union. In 1985 at the beginning of the "cellular" explosion, Jack launched his own very successful cellular business. Later in life he consulted financially for numerous small businesses, from veterinary practices to nonprofits.

At the age of 67, Jack discovered tennis and played several times a week until April 2018. Most of his tennis buddies were a third of his age, and he loved them all.

Jack was a gentle, generous, optimistic, brilliant man. He is missed.

A Celebration of Jack's Life will be held in Pensacola, FL on November 11, 2018 - his 80th birthday.
