Sybil Ann Shackelford

Milton - Sybil Ann Shackelford, 84, of Milton, Florida, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021, after an extended illness.

Sybil Ann was born in Troy, Alabama on March 19, 1936, but called Milton her home for 65 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Milton. She was an outstanding gardener and loved growing some of the most beautiful flowers and best vegetables around. She described mornings spent in the vegetable garden as 'digging for treasures.' Sybil loved the outdoors and shared her adventures in the RV with friends and family. After retirement, Sybil found joy in square dancing and developed many close friendships as a member of the Milton Canoe Squares. Sybil also enjoyed having lunches filled with fun and friendship with the ladies of the Red Hat Society. Sybil's family truly loved her wonderful southern cooking and were always happy to have a place at her table. She will always be loved and missed.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Maude Lee Milner; father, Charles Woodrow Stuart; brother, Charles Mack Stuart; step-father, William Lewis Milner; and son, Rocky Lewis Cox.

Sybil is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Vern Shackelford; daughters, Suzanne Mize (Robert Mize), Sandie Cox (Lisa Price) and Patty Ann Ehly; grandsons, Joel Mundy, Nicholas Brown and Michael Gainer; granddaughters, Brittney Grubbs and Megan Grubbs; and two great grandsons, Joshua Mundy and Noah Mundy.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of University Pines, Granny Nannies, Covenant Hospice, and Solaris Healthcare for the loving care given to Sybil during her time of illness.

Due to the current health environment, no services are planned at this time. At a later date the family will hold a memorial service and interment at Barrancas National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sybil's name to the First Baptist Church of Milton, 6797 Caroline Street, Milton, Florida 32570.

Lewis Funeral Home of Milton has been entrusted with arrangements.
