William P. Nell "Bill"

1917 - 2014

William P. Nell, age 96, died March 11, 2014. Bill was a lifelong resident of Pensacola, a life time member of Christ Episcopal Church, and a graduate of Pensacola High School. He was a member of the "World's Greatest Generation", having served his country during World War II, in the U.S. Army's 356th Ordinance Company.

Bill served his last 12 months of overseas World War II military service in France. He was recalled to duty during the Korean War and spent 8 months with his reserve Company, the 489th Amphibian Transportation Company in Greenland.

Bill retired from his job at the Pensacola Naval Air Station in 1972.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Audrey Lucille Nell; mother, Mary Lee Nell; father, Eugene Michael Nell; sister, Mary Lee Sherouse; brother, Eugene C. Nell and his adopted daughter, Virginia Diane Baggett Blanton.

Bill is survived by his adopted children, Sylvia Ann Baggett Bratcher and Henry F. Baggett; sister, Eleanor B. Hess; brother, Charles A. (Louise) Nell of Hendersonville, NC; nephews, nieces, grandchildren, friends and other close family members who loved him deeply.

Bill was known by all of his family to be a loving generous and loyal person.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, March 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., Reverend Robert Graves and Reverend Eric C. Long will officiate.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the "A" wing staff at the Health Center of Pensacola for the loving care they extended to our dad during the last four years.
