James Robinson Obituary
James Alan Robinson

Tuesday, August 12, 2014 we will lay to rest the Sergeant that told the General "No."

James Alan "Robbie" Robinson was an honest, hardworking, career military man who faithfully served his country in both the Navy and the Air Force before retiring as a Master Sergeant. A combat Veteran of VietNam, his military career took him to France, Guam, the Azores, Texas and Florida. He passed peacefully with both his Daughters at his side.

A gifted athlete, Robbie played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track. He lettered at Klamath Union High School, Oregon, and was part of championship sports teams while in the service.

Robbie was an honest man who earned numerous awards and commendations that included, but are not limited to, a Good Conduct Medal while in the Navy, and a Commendation Medal and Bronze Star while in the Air Force.

Upon retirement from the USAF, he pursued his lifelong love of the open water, obtaining his Captain's License and chartering his boat. He later turned his boat into a shrimp boat and became a commercial fisherman and independent boat builder.

Earliest memories his family had of him included him singing "You Are My Sunshine" and slinging his Granddad's hammer while building something. Anything. He loved to create and tinker. A skill he put to good use in retirement, when he built boats from the hull up.

An avid fisherman, he is one of a handful of people who have caught fish in Crater Lake, OR. A feat he accomplished while his brother Herman, and future Brother-In-Law, Leo Bocchi rowed the boat. Being the youngest had it's advantages.

Born in Seagoville Texas, he attended school in Seagoville and Dallas. During the Depression, his father relocated the family to Klamath Falls. Robbie graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1952. During retirement he used his GI Bill benefits to obtain an Associate's degree in Sociology.

He is preceded in death by his Father, Guy Lincoln Robinson; Mother, Ava Barnet Travis Robinson; beloved Brother Herman (the original "Robbie") And Sister, Judy Shields.

He leaves behind his Sister, Margie Bocchi of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Sister, Gwen Gadda of Seagoville, Texas; half-sister, Beverly Ann Bevers of Garland, Texas; Ex-wife, Mary Frances Watson Robinson of Southport, Florida; Daughter, Robin R. Smith of Fountain, Florida; Daughter, Mary Lou Robinson of Belton, Texas; Grandchildren,Stephanie Luckie, Allen Robinson, and Great-Grandchildren, David Allen Stewart and Aalyiah Marie Robinson, all of Panama City Florida; and long-time friend, Kathy Wohlers of Pensacola, Florida.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 10:30 am until the 11:30 am funeral service at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. Chaplain Ed Norris will officiate and burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
