William A. "Bill" Ross, III, 82, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012.

He was born in Columbia, SC on September 24, 1930. As he grew up in Jacksonville, FL, airplanes became his passion. Shortly after the Korean conflict began, Bill joined the US Navy. He was an attack pilot and deployed numerous times in both the Pacific and the Mediterranean. He served 10 years. He attended Georgia Tech and graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Business. After 25 years as an executive with IBM, Bill and his wife Carol moved to Pensacola in 1987. He was very active in the community, volunteering as a tour guide at the National Museum of Naval Aviation, serving on the Baptist Health Ventures Board for 15 years and serving as the Executive Director of the Escambia County Consolidated Study Commission. He was a member of the Executive Breakfast Group and an active member of First United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William A. Ross, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Kavanaugh Ross.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; two sons, Bill (Cathy) Ross of Columbus GA., Tom (Laurie) Ross of Severna Park, MD and a daughter, Pam(Andy) Entell of Kennesaw GA.; seven grandchildren, Jennings Johnston, Alexander Ross, Taylor Ann McGarrah, Tyler Ross, Madeline Ross, Robert Ross and Lillian Ross; one great-grandchild, Colton Johnston. He is also survived by his brother, Don (Ann) Ross of Alexandria, VA; his sister, Betsy Petrlak of Jacksonville, FL; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Parker of Pensacola and several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am Friday, January 11, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Wesley Wachob officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola FL 32504 or to The Living Trust, First United Methodist Church, 6 E. Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
