David's wood block project was the best ever in college, along with the perfectly seamed box project.I learned more lasting lessons from those than from anything else. I saw David a couple of years ago and was so happy to be able to tell him that he was by far the most influential teacher I had in those four years.

Dear Friends and fellow Alumni from Temple University.

I just called my dear friend David Hale to find out that he passed away February 13, 2018. He was much more to me than a professor. He was my mentor, he built the young savage designer Daniele Perna in to a successful designer. I called him at least once a month to honor him and his contribution to my life.

This is a review he wrote for me and it says alot about who he was to me.
Review By: DAVID HALE
Relationship: Multiple projects: Professor, Employer, Co-worker, Consultant.

I have known Mr. Perna for over 30 years. First when he was a student at Temple University, next working with him as a professional designer (hiring him to design Le Bourgeois Advant -Garde. Later, while working for FLYING BY FOY, we worked together on a flying cast members for Conan OBrien in in the very close confines of an NBC studio in Rockefeller Center. I have kept contact with Mr. Perna over the years since, advising him on a variety of his projects. Most extensively consultation was a loft bedroom at 234 West 13th Street, Manhattan, NY 10014..

A colleague of mine once referred to Mr. Perna as crazy. If we assume not-crazy to be one who seeks safe solutions, who looks around his environment and back to history for ideas, who prefers easy solutions, Mr. Perna might very well be considered crazy.

However, he has none of those characteristics. When he gets an idea, he researches it thoroughlyfirst from aesthetic considerations arriving at solutions by combining elements from many sources, leading to an original, creative solution. He then researches the practical considerations. This takes him to regulatory officials, trained professionals and craftspersons. He has gained the engineering understanding to combine these requirements and suggestions into his creative idea.

He is tireless in doing all of this. He is definitely the Energizer Bunny in dealing with these projects.

I just learned of his passing 30 minutes ago and not even sure who to speak to about my emotions. I loved this great man of wisdom deeply. I called him at least once a month and I spoke to him just a few days before he passed.

Every time there is a death in my life It brings deep wisdom to my soul. David will be missed, however his wisdom will live on through me and passing it on to my daughter Isabella and all of the young students and young designers that work with me.

With Love to David's family and all my friends and my family.
