McGooo you will be missed. I still don't know for sure how it felt when I was part of your screening for the Chinese program at Yale in '55. As a fellow Philly guy I sure hope they have cheese steaks and hoagies in heaven where we know you are residing.

Sincere condolences to the McGarvey family on the loss of your loving father & husband, our stalwart comrade in arms, and old friend. Patrick, my fine Irish lad, you and I shared many a good laugh and tears over the last 50 years while traveling our own rocky roads, and I will always cherish the adventures we shared and the memories of our times together. As our Irish forefathers would have said, "May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand."

We met only once, but Patrick and I shared quite a strong E-mail relationship, emanating from being part of the group of men who did similiar military assignments back in the late 50's, and I felt that I did build a bond through that, I miss him now.

I was with McGarvey at Linkou Air Station in '59. We were proud members of that small band of semi-delinquents that had been shepherded by Yale's Robert Tharp through the linguistic thickets of the Mandarin dialect and cast upon foreign shores to swill midnight coffee in smoke-filled rooms and keep a silent watch for enemy bombers. Thus began Pat McGarvey's long and illustrious career of service to his country.
In recent years, I came to love "Mcgoo's" roistering, boistrous e-mails, full of humor, passion, and the love of life. I will miss them, and him.
I know that at the final roll call, when McGarvey stands before the keeper of Heaven's gate, the assembled hosts will wonder aloud, "Who's that guy McGarvey's talking to?"
Tsaichien, Sgt. McGoo, and Yilu shun feng. Fondly, Dennis

My sincerest sympathy to all the McGoo clansmembers. The McGoo was a terrific person, an American hero of the Cold and Hot Wars. he was true to his beliefs, his heart and his faith. I am certain that God welcomed him with the open arms that he deserved. God watch over you all. Bill and Celeste Allen

I met Pat at Shu Linkou Air Station, Taiwan, Republic of China, in early 1960, over 45 years ago. He was a bright young Staff Sergeant at that time. I was able to follow his career though contacts at the CIA and his writing. We last met at a reunion of Air Force Chinese linguists in the late 1990s. Pat's memory will live on through the annals of our group's camaderie, his service to our country, society and his church.
Our sincere condolences to his family in their time of loss. And, finally, we wish him bon voyage as he continues on his journey through eternity. Farewell sweet prince!

Besides meeting Patrick in 1960 in Taiwan, one of the greatest things was catching up with him 38 years later, in 1998 through the internet.
Patrick, you're one of the best. It's that Philly thing. I'll miss you.
Always your friend,
Joel Aronson
