MAJOR HESTER ELIZA, 65, passed away (Promoted to Glory) Thursday, March 5, 2015. A Service of Remembrance and Recognition will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11 A.M., at The Salvation Army Philadelphia Kroc Center, 4200 Wissahickon Ave., Phila. PA 19129.
Major Hester E. Dixon was born in Spartanburg SC, on November 18, 1949, to George and Louise Burgess. Major Hester E. Dixon was an active Salvation Army Officer since 1981, in numerous positions of leadership within the United States as well as four years in Liberia, West Africa. At the time of her unexpected Promotion to Glory she was the Associate Director of Operations for Greater Philadelphia and along with her husband Major Robert Dixon, were to have celebrated their retirement from active Salvation Army Officership on March 14, 2015.
Major Hester E. Dixon is survived by her mother, Louise Burgess; her husband of forty-eight years, Major Robert W. Dixon; a son, Robert Jr.; 2 daughters, Heather and Marcia; 6 grandchildren, Robert III, Rendell, Christopher, Jade, Courteney, and Phoenix; 3 great-grandchildren; 10 sisters and brothers. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia, Food Programs. Donations may be mailed to The Salvation Army, 701 North Broad Street, Phila. PA 19123. Or, placed online at www.saphilly.org.
