MARIE A., M.D., F.A.C.R.
Dr. Marie Capitanio of Warminster, formerly Hatboro, died peacefully amongst family members on September 13, 2015.
After a 28-year career, Marie retired in 1992 as the Chief of Radiology at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Marie was appointed to 18 committees at St. Christopher's, including the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, the Hospital Long Range Planning Committee and the Board of Directors.
Dr. Capitanio also taught at Temple University School of Medicine and served as the Chief of Pediatric Radiology from 1974 to 1992. Marie's expertise translated into hundreds of speaking engage-ments and publications which gained her global recognition in her field.
Throughout her long career, Dr. Capitanio saved, taught and touched so many lives that it is impossible to count them all. Her illustrious accomplish-ments are surpassed only by the love she shared with family and friends. To many, she was "Dr. Capitanio", to us she was simply "Marie" or "Auntie Ree."
Marie is affectionately remembered and missed by her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Wynetta Capitanio. She was predeceased by her loving sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Thomas Dooney, as well as her parents, John and Edith Capitanio (née Riccardi). Auntie Ree is also fondly remembered and missed by her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
Dr. Capitanio's family wishes to send their utmost love, gratitude and admiration to Valerie Jones, Visiting Angels, Dr. Kenneth Sperling and the amazing staff at Christ's Home Retirement Community. The love, attention and care that you gave our Aunt will never be forgotten.
Services are private.
Donations can be made "in memory of Marie A. Capitanio, M.D." to: St Christopher's Foundation for Children, 1800 JFK Blvd, Suite 1550, Philadelphia, PA 19103
