EMILY ORNE Obituary
EMILY CAROTA, passed away from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis on August 1, 2016. She was born in Boston in 1938 to Ruth Farrell Carota and Emil Carota. She graduated from Bennington College and did graduate work in research psychology at Brandeis Univer-sity. In 1962 she married the late Martin T. Orne, M.D., Ph.D. For the next 38 years, they worked together at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital and University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, in Philadelphia, where she was a Research Associate of Psychology in Psychiatry. Throughout her career she authored numerous professional publications and was the recipient of several scholarly awards and honors. She continued to contribute to research in various capacities until her retirement in 2014.
She is survived by her son, Frank T. Orne, and her daughter, Tracy M. Orne; her brother, Noel Farrell Carota; her sisters-in-law, Lindsay Stradley Carota and Susie Orne, and their families, and by her caregiver Michael McCullough. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Institute for Experimental Psychiatry Research Founda-tion, 290 Sycamore Avenue, Merion Station PA 19066.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, August 8th, at WEST LAUREL HILL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 225 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.

Emily was a brilliant and loving human being. I was honored to work for, and with her, from January 1989 until September 1998. What I learned from her I keep with me to this day. Whoever worked with her, she kept as family. Noel, Lindsay, Frank, and Tracy I am sorry for your loss. The world was a better place with Emily in it. She suffers no more.

Emily Orne was a great professional and a caring person. She gave herself unstintingly to looking after those around her.
She was a loving and caring wife to her late husband, Martin , and helped him in whatever way she could. I admired her greatly when I was working along side her many years ago in the Unit For Experimental Psychiatry., Philadelphia.
We have been honoured to have known her, and she will be sorely missed.
I will personally remember her passing with much sadness.
