Memories and Condolences
for Hugh Gannon

Not sure what to say?

November 28, 2006

I remember being a young adult loving horseracing and going to Philadelphia Park. At the time, Mr. Gannon was doing broadcasting for Philadelphia Park Live. Me and my younger approached Mr. Gannon and we thought we were big shots because we saw someone from TV. Mr. Gannon was very friendly and talked to us for a while. He took time from his schedule and was not annoyed by us at all. We always said hello during our trips afterwards, and Mr. Gannon always had time. My thoughts to his family. God Bless.

I met Hugh about 6 years ago while he was working for a client of mine in Huntingdon Valley.

Hugh was by far one of the finest gentlemen I have ever met.

God speed, Commander.

I had the pleasure of working with Hugh at Ch. 10, and fondly remember his great sense of humor - and his somewhat high-pitched laugh! We always seemed to have the best times when he was around. We'll miss the big guy, and send heartfelt condolences to the family.

I grew up listening to Hugh at the racetrack and a few years ago had the pleasure of working with him. I will always remember him. He was a very kind intelligent man who always had time to talk to me about horse racing, baseball or just life in general. He was a groundbreaker in his industry and had a lot to do with how big horseracing and the racing channel have become in this area. Philadelphia has lost a great Sports personality and an ever better MAN! My heart goes out to his entire family at this very difficult time. Hopefully they can take solice in knowing he touched many lives.God Bless you Hugh you will be missed!!

I was lucky to meet Hugh only a few years ago, and I will always cherish the memories. He was a man with an incredible wit, masterful command of the English language, and the ability to make a joke that left them all rolling in the aisles. Wherever he went, people would stop to say hello, some knew him and some recalled his days with channel 10, or WIP, or Prism, or Philadelphia Park. He was a modest man, who never asked to be recognized as a celebrity, but always treated those who remembered him with the greatest of kindness. My condolences to his family, friends and neighbors. I will miss him.

My favorite memory is the trick Hugh
and Dave Harvey played on me. I was doing live minicam at the time, and we were at the Spectrum to do a live standup for TV10 News. We were
inside the building almost up to the time to get the signal back to
the station, so I ran out to the
van to feed the news piece. What
I didn't know was that Hugh had put
his big sheepdog into the van, so
that when I got in, I realized he
was to be my companion throughout
the feed, as I had to stay in the
van with him until we were done.
Hugh was always a fun guy to be around.
