LEONARD

THOMAS, 47, died suddenly on February 7, 2005 at his residence in Stillpond, MD. He was formally of Berwyn, PA and graduated from Conestoga High School in 1976. In 1978 he graduated George Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC, where he earned an RT, MRI. Tom worked for 15 years at Anne Arundel Medical Center MRI Unit, Annapolis, MD., where he was a valued and compassionate employee. Tom is greatly missed by his family, family friends, co-workers, and Stillpond and Chestertown MD neighbors and friends and will always be remembered for his charming, friendly and kindly manner. He was a sensitive artist and poet, a master craftsman and gifted teacher. In 1976 Tom was Water Skiing Director at YMCA Camp Tockwogh and taught sailing and waterskiing many years there after. Tom was a leader and was at his very best when he was helping others. A Memorial Service was held on Feb. 13th at the Chester River Unitarian Church in Chestertown, MD. Tom was attending regular services at the church and found great comfort in the congregation. Memorial Donations may be made, in Tom's name, to the Chester River Unitarian Church Building Fund, 100 Cross Street, Chestertown, MD, 21620. Barbara Burr Leonard, his wife, survives Tom; his parents Chuck and Jill Leonard of Berwyn PA and Deltona, FL; his sisters Elizabeth Leonard-Leshner of Villanova and Martha Leonard of Tampa, FL., and his brother Jamie Leonard and sister-in-law Ann Martinez Leonard of Folsom, NJ. Hello,

I learned of Tom's passing recently, through an old friend, who visited this site and sent the information. All the lovely pictures and heart-felt writings moved me to share some thoughts.

I am grateful to have known Tom. We graduated in the same 1976, high school class. Through the mist of 39 years, I clearly remember his easy going, friendly, accepting ways. I recall a handsome, vigorous, young guy, with wild red hair, a good sense of humor and a twinkle in the eye.

We shared allot of interests, had many mutual friends and I always enjoyed being in his company. Although we only knew each other for two years, it felt longer than that!

To Tom's family and friends, I offer my deepest sympathies and my thanks for the pictures and words of this site.

Dear Hearts,

The Leonard family are all in our thoughts and prayers today as we take time to look back and remember the many great memories we have of Tom.
As we spent so many Superbowls together watching with our families, I think of the one we watched after we moved to Niagara and the Fathers planned for us all to meet halfway in Courtland N.Y. in 75 or 76. Our Mothers planned the meals and all enjoyed the time together. I think, without looking on the web, that CVL lost that bet as he selected his beloved Vikings.
I love the words The Feldmann's posted last fall for Tom and his family and friends. Keep the faith as it will keep you stong when life throw's you a curve ball from time to time

Hey Tom,
Five years have gone by, and it seems like just a moment ago we were talking on the telephone. Tonight I came to work by way of some good citizens. The city streets are so quiet with no cars and no busses! You would have been one of those guys, driving around and getting the nurses to work in the deep snow. I knew you would be happier I was helping out rather than moping around - so, I am here at work, in your honor, of course.

You know, whenever I see change on the floor, I think of you, collect it, and put it in a cup in the North corner of my place. This morning there was a '63 penny on the CTRC floor when I came in.

WOW I miss you so badly.

Keep watching over us,
Love,
Beth

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Tom and I were friends at St. Monica School during grades 2-4 along with George Hoberg, Kip Colaw, Joe Larkin, Billy Driscoll, and many others. I just found out about Tom's passing, and I want to express my deep sorrow at your loss.

Tom,

Well the boarding season is finally over and what a season it was. We need to thank you for all the snow you provided to us in Steamboat and Winter Park. You must have had a great time with the snow control joy stick that week laughing at us as you watched us keep eating it in all that powder. Waist deep all week dude!!! THANKS! It was off the hook. We had such a great time! Of course Jamie had the word of the week “FRESHIE”. That pretty much summed it up. The ski patrol also said that it was “The best it’s ever been”.

Wow!

We really wished you were there with us and we thought of you every day. Take care.

Dear Beth and family,

Thank you for sharing your Tom on these pages. So similar they are, Tom and our son Jeff, now forever 35. It is obvious from the photos on these pages that Tom LOVED life just as our Jeff did, despite their tragic ends. They would have enjoyed knowing each other; perhaps they've crossed paths now - who knows for sure. It's comforting to think so. We're coming up on their aniversaries (Jeff's is Feb 23, 2000). Peace & comfort as you remember Tom on the 7th.

Hi Tom,
It looks like Dad is going to be OK. He had a radiation related obstruction for which he was in the OR most of this morning. One of Jamie's friends, a trauma surgeon, did the BIG surgery. He removed all of the scar tissue that hung up his small intestines. Some of it could not be removed, so they cut it out. The surgeons were in there a long time, cleaning Dad all up. The good news is this: repeat scans done pre-op did not show the cancer "nits" in his lungs or in his liver. They are ALL GONE. Thanks Bro'. Keep the light shinin down on us.

Oh, Dad got the penny on Father's day.

I love you and miss you so very much,

Two years Ago.

It doesn’t seem like such a long time ago. I remember when I heard about my Uncle Tom’s death. I remember sitting in the chair with the phone to my ear in total shock. And now today I sit and remember him and all the good times that we shared together; all the jokes and stories that he would tell my sisters and I. He taught me so much about life and that is what I will remember forever. But what I miss most is his free spirit. Every summer that I spend at Tockwogh reminds me of his light and energy. I wish that today he could have seen me out on the water teaching kids to ski just as he did for me. There are so many things that he and I shared and he will always be with me in spirit. My Uncle Tom was a great person and he is missed a great deal.

December 25, 2006

Hey Tom,
Merry Christmas, Bro'. Well, it is a very quiet year here in Beth's house. Juliet's snoozin in the loft and I am finishing some notes to old friends. Beth's "Little Old House" has become Beth's "South of South Street" condo! There is not too much room for a big dinner today, but we had a great time last night when Juliet finally made it home through the Big Snow!!
I really miss you, bro, and wish you could see how we have all changed and grown. I still find myself thinking, "Well, we will get Tom to come help" or "Tom can fix this" esp. when there is a moving related issue (All the Leonards and Richard have moved this year, except Martha)....and then I remember you are not here any longer.
But you ARE here!! Thank you for guiding us and helping us to have it all work out just right. Dad's tumor could never have been predicted, but he is here, within a cab ride to the daily treatments that will save his life. Keep watching over us and know that we are praying for you every day, many times a day, to help you with the great work you are doing from above. Not a day goes by that you are not thought of with much love. Really miss you Tom, but I am keeping the faith and you "in the Light"
I love you so much,

Tom,

I just got back from another trip to the River last week. I went to help Mom and Dad close up the place. Scored some great arrowheads (thanks for the vibe)!! My last couple of days I took the train up to see Jamie, Annie and the kids. He just bought a new house. You would definitely approve. It is nice. They have lots of room to grow in a great location.

I got my first day of riding in last Friday. It was opening day of Copper Mountain. Actually caught some powder and conditions were quite good. I still cannot strap in without thinking of you (Dude, pull me out, I’m strapped in PERFECTLY!!) Oh yeah, you would be proud, I totally hooked Jamie up with a brand new Rossi RS 162 stick for his birthday. He was blown away. It really felt great. His current board was really trashed. I cannot believe that he actually was riding it in that condition.

You take care and I will check in after we get the real snow here and give you low down.

Love ya,

Chick

Yo dude,

Heading to the Chesapeake today. It’s my birthday and I can’t think of a better place to be. I will miss that bow wake of yours on the Mako heading up the Bohemia. I could always see you coming. I will take the kids up to Manor Creek to nail some big lunkers. I know we will hit it big since me, Jamie and Paul left you there. Ok, maybe the tide took you out to sea, but I know where to find you. Jamie is heading to Baja next weekend. I know you will keep him in the big waves, best conditions and safe.

Hey, you need to give me a little help finding arrowheads though. Jamie always finds a good one and I gotta keep up.

I am already getting psyched for Snowboard season. (Dude, do I have any blood on my jacket?) Only a couple of months till opening! The forecast is for snow tomorrow above 12,000 feet. Yeah baby!!!!!

I still think of you almost every day. I miss you terribly, but I know you are are always in my heart. I will write often to give you all good stuff.

Take care.

Tom was my next neighbor who always had a smile on his face and was willing to lend a helping hand. I surely miss him as a friend and neighbor. I know the pain he was going thru, we shared conversations about his issues. I hoped and prayed that things would be better. I miss Tom, as I pass by his house daily walking my dog knowing that he is with the Good Lord Above. He will always be remembered by my family as well. God Bless !

I found your website by accident, but was astonished to find out your Tom Leonard and myself (also Tom Leonard) where the same age within weeks (I am 48 now). I am sorry for your loss . The pictures of his youth brought back so many memories and where so similar to my youth. Your tribute to your Tom is full warmth and love. May Tom rest in peace.

Hey Tom,
We were in Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Juliet's 18th birthday. We had missed the turn-off to Boulder and ended up there. Exploring those amazing rocks and awesome musuem I thought I could feel you around. (It reminded me a little of the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" we had visited while in Cleveland. WHAT A COOL DAY THAT WAS!)

Later, when I saw the pictures, I was astounded. There was Juliet, sitting and reading, unaware of the Ray of Light shining down on her.
Tom, please continue to watch over Juliet. Protect and keep her while she is so far from home, and always. I know you are in a better place, watching over all of us. I try not to cry as much but still, I miss you.
Love,
Beth

Beth, and all of you -

I haven't actually seen a Leonard in 30 years, but was heartbroken to hear (from Skip who heard from a devastated Tom E.) of Tom's death. Tom was one of the gentlest people I have ever known... Words fail me.

Thank you for the photos, the stories, the memories. I did well until getting to the picture of Tom on the "Pretty Babe". That's exactly how I remember Tom, with the Raggedy Andy hair and cut-offs, and the air of expectation.

I showed that picture to my 14 year-old son tonight, and told him about the guys painting a Tockwogh T-shirt on "Pretty Babe's" bare-breasted figure-head, for propriety sake... good times at Camp.

So I got to laugh and cry, both. Thank you.

Much love to you all,
