John Baker Obituary

John R. Baker
Chesapeake - John R. Baker, better known as Jack, went to be with the Lord on November 10, 2012 surrounded by his family. Born on Sept. 23, 1931 in Sarles, North Dakota, he was the son of the late Edith and John Knox Baker.
He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Billie Jean; his two brothers, Robert & Norman and his two sisters, Doris & Elaine.
He is survived by his companion Cathy, lovingly known as Cat; his daughter, Jean R. Castaneda and her husband, Oscar; his son, John L. Baker; his brother, Harry and his two sisters, Helen and Vera. He also leaves seven grand children, Marissa, Danielle, Courtney and her husband Brandon, Cam, A.J., Brooke, and Jerica, his adopted grandson, Garland, his great granddaughter, Peyton; his niece, Vicki, better known as The Brat, his nephew, Peanut, and his best doggy friends, Peanut & Missy.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951- 1954. He retired from the Ford Motor Company after 40 Years. He was former member of Grace Lutheran Church.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 795 since 1963 serving as Past Worthy President of his local & state Aries; he was state Treasurer for 14 years, Secretary of his local Aerie for 24 years.
The Family would like to thank Heartland Hospice Care for Jack's excellent care & support, especially his nurse, Mary Jane and the rest of the staff. The family also extends a heartfelt thank you to all of his friends from Pancakes and Things for their continued love and support.
Memorial donations may be made in Jack's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 15, at 6 p.m. at the FOE # 795 at 521 Maple Street, Chesapeake, Va. 23324, Phone 757-543-7895.
