Peter James Rader III
Virginia Beach - Peter James Rader III, 42, passed away suddenly at his home in Virginia Beach on November 15, 2012. He was born in Greenwich, CT on November 6, 1970 to Peter J. Rader and Joyce Larrabee Rader.
Pete graduated from Union High School, Tulsa, OK in 1989 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter. He was stationed at Oceana NAS and was a proud member of VF-41 Black Aces. He served on the USS Theodore Roosevelt in Operation Desert Storm. He was awarded numerous decorations, including the Navy Achievement Medal. After his service he earned his associate degree from Pitt Community College in Greenville, NC and his bachelors from UNC Wilmington.
Pete worked for Cingular in Wilmington for many years when he decided corporate life was too confining. He moved to Virginia Beach in 2006 and worked for Sturgis Caulking until his death. Pete loved his music, beer, buddies, disc golf, cats and tropical fish - but not necessarily in that order. He was a free spirit who enjoyed doing things his way.
Surviving is Pete's Pop, Peter J. Rader and his step-mother Virginia Collins Rader of VA Beach, his sister Elizabeth Lutz, Yukon, OK. He was predeceased by his mother Joyce in 2001. He is also survived by step-siblings Mary Elizabeth, James and Noreen Collins. He will also be missed by many relatives and friends.

Pete was a good friend of mine when I lived in Wilmington. We had worked together at Cingular. I eventually left Wilmington and years ago, he talked about coming to visit me in California. Didn't happen and he sort of fell off. Time passed and I emailed him and it bounced back, and then his number was disconnected. This week, I discovered that he passed and I'm heartbroken. Pete had holistic energy and loved music and true friendships. I remember Pete routinely educating me on Frank Zappa and we'd listen and rejoice to Zappa's lyrics... and the frisbee golf.
I miss you deeply. You'll forever shine on in the memories of all of those you touched who knew the amazing person you are.

Pete was a special being, who always gave to everyone. He now leaves us with an important legacy. His legacy is his truth and our lesson, if we're lucky enough to have our eyes wide open to see it. It is: to live life with zeal, laughter, & love. But This love has got to be FIRST with one's self. Living life with zeal & passion means valuing & honoring life; taking care of your mental & physical health & choosing life experiences with caution & care. Honor yourself! I know that Pete is soaring in his new adventure in life & hoping we all will come away with a lesson well learned. In saddness, but hope, debbie

I can't think of a better friend, roommate, or coworker. There are many things we learned together, taught each other and forget. My love for music, fish, cats and sales stems from our relationship. I have and always will miss the times we shared together. Jim said it best, you dance to the beat of your drum.
Love you bro!

Hard to come up with words to talk about Pete. Pete was motion......8000 rpm's of motion 24/7. Just can't get out of my mind the last time we sat at the bar at the Frog. If I could come up with any word to describe Pete.....it would be "genuine". The dude was straight up. We're all gonna miss him.

I will forever miss you Pete. I remember the day we met like it was yesterday, but it was almost 18 years ago in Wilmington, NC. You moved into the apartment right below mine and Eric Sese. Within 5 minutes of your U-Haul pulling into the parking lot you were upstairs knocking on our door having heard us playing guitar. The rest is history. You've clearly affected everyone you touched including myself. Say hi to Sese for me up there. I will miss you brother.
