Daniel J. Murphy
Virginia Beach - Daniel John Murphy, 76, passed away on Dec. 28, 2013. He was born in Worcester, Mass. to the late Daniel Joseph Murphy and Lucille Abbott. He was a member of Lynnhaven Masonic Lodge # 220, Norfolk Scottish Rite, Khedive Temple, and the American Legion. He also worked in Civil Service after serving in the US Navy for 20 years.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Donna E. Murphy; daughters, Darra J. Sansom and husband Dale of Jacksonville, FL, Daneen E. Doughtie and husband Paul of Va. Beach, VA, Dreann L. Holt of Va. Beach, VA; sisters, Patricia Reilly and husband James; Joyce Power; brothers, Robert Murphy and wife Nancy, Richard Murphy and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Shannon, Matthew, Stephanie, Beth, Sarah, Aaron; great grandson, Brayden; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel from 3:00pm till 5:00pm with Masonic Rites at 3:00pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Saint Francis Episcopal Church with The Reverend Father R. Stephen Powers officiating. A reception will follow services at V.F.W. Post 392, 2408 Bowland Parkway, Virginia Beach 23454.Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Khedive Temple Transportation Division at 645 Woodlake Dr., Chesapeake, VA 23320 or Saint Francis Episcopal Church at 509 S Rosemont Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. I miss him so very much and always thinking about him. He was a great uncle and he was the one who got me into Mason/ Shriners. I'm so very sorry, but I just couldn't afford to do the Masons/ Shriners. He always brought me to the military base with Matthew to see the tall military ships. I used to talk to Daniel on his CB radio in his personal van. I still have the videos on the SD card of the girls singing to you and when ever I hear it I would tear up. I'm sure that Donna misses you the most.
I just miss you so very much Uncle Dan.

Dan was a kind and gentle guy who always had an interesting story or joke to tell. I have fond memories of our conversations and emails. He will be missed by many. May The Lord be with the family in their time of sorrow.
