Talmadge C. Garrett
Norfolk - Talmadge Codel (T.C.) Garrett, CW04 USN (Ret.), 71, a resident of Norfolk, Virginia, died peacefully on January 4, 2014. Born in Washington, DC on July 10, 1942, T.C. is the son of the late Edna Garrett and Sherman Croskey. After graduating from Cardozo High School, Washington, DC, in 1960, T.C. enlisted in the US Navy, where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was commissioned in 1977. During his distinguished 30 year US Navy career, T.C. received numerous citations, awards, and commendations, including the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, the American Defense Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. He retired in 1990.
T.C. is survived by his wife Virginia Grandy Garrett; daughters Sharnett Y. Latimore (Greg) of Houston, Texas, and Crystal B. Garrett of McLean, Virginia; son Michael A. Garrett of North Carolina; sisters Rev. Joyce Fields (David) and Carolyn Newsome (Kevin) of Maryland; grandchildren Michael A. Garrett, Jr , Traci Bryan, Brandi Johnson, David Wineski, and Jasmine Hutchinson; four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life service was held on January 10, 2014. Burial with Full Military Honors was held at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Professional services are entrusted to Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby St.

A man who was all about family. He always said I love you and was full of joy and happiness. I will always be grateful to him for so many things and for the love he has shown me and my children (his grandchildren). We miss you so much dad and granddaddy. We love you always.
