Dean Hickman
Melfa - Mr. Louie Dean "Deany" Hickman, 70, husband of the late Edna McLamb Hickman and a resident of Melfa, VA, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, VA.
Born October 31, 1942 in Newport News, VA, he was a son of Katherine Birch Hickman of Melfa, and the late Louie Wilgus Hickman. Deany was a longtime mathematics educator, having taught at the former Onancock High School, Broadwater Academy, and the Eastern Shore Community College. He had also been a broker with Atlantic Commodities; and was the founder and owner/operator of Eastern Shore Video, and most recently, Hickman Seafood.
Deany had attended Hollies Baptist Church; was extremely interested in genealogical research, including being active in the Genealogy and History Of The Eastern Shore (GHOTES) community; member of the Exmore Moose Lodge #683; an avid college sports fan; former softball, tennis and football athlete; and had enjoyed bowling.
In addition to his mother, survivors include three children, Dean Hickman, Jr. and wife Sandi, Stacie Hickman Arnold and husband Hank, and Sara Elizabeth Hickman Price and husband Mark; a sister, Diana Kay Annunziata; a brother, Randy Hickman and his wife Anne; three grandchildren, Caroline, Katie and Logan Arnold; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Jack D. Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Broadwater Academy, P.O. Box 546, Exmore, VA 23350 or to the Eastern Shore Public Library, P.O. Box 360, Accomac, VA 23301.
