Virginia Beach - Ray went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 18, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the Hospice of East Texas, at the age of 82.

He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing the saxophone. In October, 1991 his Men's 4.0 tennis team won the USTA National Championship in Dallas, Texas. In his retirement he had wonderful days of playing tennis, walking the beach and enjoying the beautiful sunsets.
As his heathl declined from Parkinson's Disease he moved to Tyler, Texas to be near his family. Ray was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church. God and family were very important to him.
He is survived by his loving family including his devoted wife of 61 years, Jerline Korbach Hembree, two sons, Dr. Mark Hembree and daughter-in-law Anne, Dr. Jeffrey Hembree and fiancee Shannon Audley; two granddaughters, Dr. Sarah Hill and husband Joshua, and Alexandra Hembree.
A memorial celebration and burial for Ray will be held at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. Cremation arrangements were through Ingram Funeral Home, Quinlan, Texas. Family visitation was held on February 21 at the home of Dr. Mark Hembree in Tyler, Texas. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be made to the Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701. The family offers heartfelt gratitude to Ray's caregivers for the last 8 years for their loving devotion and care; and also to the staff of the Hospice of East Texas for their devotion during his last days.

Jerline, you may not remember me but we were high school friends in Willoughby were I lived in the summer near Sue Bargamin. I read about Ray in the paper and wanted you to know how sorry I am at his passing. I hope you will be comforted living near your children. I send you fond sympathies.
