Virginia Beach - Carlton B. Garrett, 87, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at his residence following a long illness.
He was born in Weeksville, North Carolina the son of the late Linwood and Laurine Bray Garrett. He served in the US Navy during WW II and the Korean War. Carlton was a founding member of Carrow Baptist Church in Virginia Beach.
He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 66 years Norma S. Garrett; two children, Larry Garrett and his wife Cheryl and Cynthia G. Sullivan and her husband David; two grandsons, Brian Sullivan and his wife Kristal and Michael Sullivan and his wife Kelly; one great grandson, Robert Porter Sullivan; Carlton is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandsons, Christopher and Stephen Garrett.
A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. Pastor Doug Plumlee will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private in Rosewood Memorial Park.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to his "private nurse", Susan Phillips for her wonderful care. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Kidney Foundation. Condolences may be offered to the family at
