James W. Thomas
Norfolk - James William Thomas, 93, passed away at home on July 30, 2013. He was born in Middlebourne, WV, and moved to Norfolk during WWII where he and his twin brother enlisted and served together in the U.S. Navy. Later he worked for Monroe The Calculator Company and retired in 1981 after 35 years.
Jim was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church and found great joy in helping others. He was active in Boy Scouts and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 8. He was an avid broom maker and enjoyed other crafts, such as woodworking, woodcarving and blacksmithing.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Martha, and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Lynn (Evelyn) Thomas; daughter, Barbara (Michael) Cowley; stepson, Chip (Nicole) Pixley; stepdaughter, Amy Porter; grandchildren, Jake and Josh Porter, and Jackson and Reese Pixley; nieces Dianne Carpenter and Susan (Doug) Townshend; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow at the church.
