William H. Brandon
Moyock - William "Bill" Henry Brandon, 60, lost his courageous battle to cancer and passed on Thursday, March 14, 2013.
Born in Tampa FL, graduated Winter Haven High School, and a student at Santa Fe Community and Polk Community Colleges, he joined the U. S. Navy in 1976. He attended Submarine School in Groton, CT and served onboard the USS George W. Carver, USS Billfish, USS Hyman G. Rickover, USS L. Y. Spear, USS Orion, and USS Emory S. Land. Additional duty stations throughout his 21 years of naval service included Recruit Training Command, Orlando and Submarine Squadron 8, Norfolk. Following his retirement from active duty, Bill continued to serve his country as a defense contractor for SFA Inc. as an IT Specialist eventually specializing in information security and completed his career at the Naval Safety Center as their Information Assurance Officer.
In his leisure time he enjoyed being outside, waxing his vehicles, and gardening. He was fascinated by American and military history and a civil war enthusiast.
Survivors include daughters Christen Brandon of Camden, NC, and Sarah Brandon; and son, Michael Brandon of Moyock NC; grandchildren, Alanna Griffin and Marlee Smith Brandon; father, Arthur "Tom" Brandon of Winter Haven, FL, sisters, Mary Brandon Air of Houston, TX, Genie Cooney McBurnett of Bend Oregon, and Sally Brandon of Winter Haven, FL.
The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Arlington National.
The family would like to offer sincere gratitude to Dr. Amy Skorupa and her staff, as well as those at Albemarle Medi-Home Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Brandon.
