Ruth Calvert

Ruth Virginia A. Calvert PORTSMOUTH - Ruth Virginia Applewhite Calvert, 84, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 4, 2010. Ruth was born in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Walter Wray Applewhite and Elizabeth Lee Powell Applewhite. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Robert Edward Calvert and her brothers, Wray, Roy and Woodis. Mrs. Calvert is survived by her daughters, Virginia Lee Efird and her husband Wayne, Sandy D. Holmes and her husband Bill; grandchildren, Shelley Holmes and Tad Holmes; brothers, Hilton F. Applewhite and his wife Diane, Larry Applewhite; and a sister, Bettie F. Capps and her husband Jim. Also surviving Mrs. Calvert are several nieces and nephews. A funeral to celebrate Ruth's life will be held Friday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, with Pastor Mark Pullen officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Ruth's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses at Golden Living Center for the care they gave Ruth.
