Virginia Beach - Allister (Al) MacKenzie MacKay, beloved husband of Ruth Warrell MacKay for 66 years, passed away peacefully on September 3 at the age of 94. Al is survived by Ruth and their four children Elizabeth MacKay, William (Staci) MacKay, Ian (Judy) MacKay, and Kathleen (Cullen) Walker. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alex (Megan) MacKay; Rachel MacKay; Connor MacKay, Kendall MacKay; Elizabeth (Kevin) Stoll; John (Ali) Walker, great-grandchildren Carrington and Colette Stoll, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces.

Al was born January 29, 1924 in Scotsburn, Nova Scotia, Canada to Alexander and Euphemia MacKay and is predeceased by his brothers, Donald and Allan (Al's twin). He attended Heathbell School, Pictou Academy and Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Al served in the Canadian Army as a Signalman in Australia during World War II. He then obtained his Bachelor of Science from MacDonald College, McGill University (1949) and his Master's in Dairy Science from the University of Vermont (1952).

He was a field representative for the American Guernsey Cattle Club in Frederick, Maryland before moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1960 to manage dairy operations at Bayville Farms until his retirement in 1988, after which he worked at McDonald's Garden Center. Al and Ruth moved to Falls Church, Virginia in 2015 to be closer to family.

Al was a long time member of Baylake United Methodist Church and Bayside Lions Club. He also served as a Director of Virginia State Dairyman's Association and the Virginia Beach Chamber of Commerce. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bayside Lions Club, 4008 Thoroughgood Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23455 or Baylake United Methodist Church.
