Captain Carl C. Neidlinger, USN (ret)
Virginia Beach - Captain Carl Christian Neidlinger, U.S. Navy, retired, a veteran of 34 years service passed away on 21 September 2013. Captain Neidlinger was born in Jacksonville Florida in 1927, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Neidlinger of that city.
He entered the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1945 and was subsequently accepted into the Navy's Flying Midshipmen Program, where he earned his naval aviator wings. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkley in 1960. His Navy service included F4U Corsair combat missions in the Korean War and various squadron and shipboard duty. He commanded Electronic Warfare Squadron 33 in Quonset Point, Rhode Island and served as Navigator and Executive Officer in USS Boxer (LPH 4). His overseas duty included Okinawa, Japan and London, England. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, four air medals, two Meritorious Service medals and various campaign ribbons.
Captain Neidlinger is survived by his wife of 64 years, Zona Yowell Neidlinger, son CAPT Eric C. Neidlinger, USN (ret) and daughter-in-law Victoria of Alexandria, Virginia, son Marc C. Neidlinger and partner Eugene McAvoy of Marysville, Washington, grandsons Ryan C. Neidlinger and LT Erik C. Neidlinger, USN and sister Mrs. N.R. Sedlander of Melbourne, Florida.
