Constantine Patselas

Norfolk - Constantine "Connie" M. Patselas, of Ashland, VA, passed away on August 7, 2018 at the age 93. Born April 27, 1925 in New York, NY he attended public schools and during his teens worked as a stock boy at his uncle's grocery store in the Bronx. He enlisted in the Navy where he served in the Amphibious Forces in the European Theater during WW II. His unit's responsibility was to set up communications and berthing instructions for the supply ships following the invasion of Normandy in 1944 and he was discharged in 1946. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Fordham University and later studied at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. His early job experiences were in banking while working in Manhattan. On May 4, 1958, he married his sister's best friend Elizabeth (Bette) Damergis. They moved to Norfolk, VA. where the couple became members of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church parish. Connie served on the welcoming committee where on Sunday mornings you would frequently find him enthusiastically greeting visitors. He also served on the Parish Council and supported church festivals. During his working years in Tidewater, Connie served as comptroller for several firms and retired in 1995. He then fulfilled a lifelong passion for the study of WW II history by becoming a volunteer at the MacArthur Memorial where he conducted tours associated with various education programs and assisted in the inventory of their artifact collection. Connie's love of the printed word was evident in all his leisure pursuits including the reading of books, periodicals and newspapers. He enjoyed collecting clipped articles and frequently forwarded them to family members and friends according to their specific career and general interests. A dedicated father, he devoted his time and energy towards the enrichment of his children by expounding the value of a good education, knowing your history, and in the appreciation of music and the visual arts. Connie is survived by his children Christopher Patselas of Ann Arbor, MI, Dr. Timothy Patselas of Jacksonville, NC and Marianne Roman of Ashland, VA, their spouses, his eight grandchildren and one greatgrandchild, his sisters Christine Webb of York, SC and Augusta Sorrentino of Manlius, NY.
