Elizabeth Booker Schellenberg
Virginia Beach - Elizabeth "Betty Jo" Booker Schellenberg, 79, of Virginia Beach passed away suddenly on July 3, 2013. She was born in Washington DC on November 8, 1933 daughter of the late Ivan A Booker and Fairyitless Booker.
She is survived by her husband Karl A Schellenberg, brother Lewis A. Booker (Joyce) of Virginia Beach, son Robert Schellenberg (Cindy) of Rocky Mount, NC, daughter Betty Ann Galway (Bob) of Virginia Beach, VA, son Richard Schellenberg (Carol) of Richmond, VA and daughter Margi Schellenberg (Michael Weigel) of Freiburg, Germany. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was a member of Washington-Lee High School Choir and Madrigals in Arlington, VA and studied music during three summers at Interlochen, Michigan. She graduated from St. Olaf College in 1955 and was a member of the St Olaf Choir. She was a soloist at Clarendon Methodist Church, Bayside Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk and sang in Temple Beth Israel in New Haven and Harvard University Chapel. She has worked as a music teacher at Friends School in Baltimore and as a secretary to Departments at Yale and Johns Hopkins. She was active as a vocalist for many years as a charter and current member of the Virginia Symphony Chorus and current member of the Schola Cantorum. She was a former member of the Virginia Pro Musica and Town and Gown Chorus. She was the first president of the EVMS Faculty Wives Club 1973-1975. She enjoyed playing Mah Jong with friends, gardening and luncheons with the Lakeview Ladies. She will best be remembered as pouring her life into loving her family. She was always kind and thought only of others.
A Memorial Service will be held on Mon. July 8 in the Rose Garden Hall at Norfolk Botanical Garden at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
