Virginia Beach - Elmer Randolph "Randy" Pugh, Jr., 80, died on October 10th, 2014 with his family by his side. Randy, the son of Elmer R. Pugh, Sr. and Sarah Margaret Jenkins Pugh, was born in Portsmouth, VA on July 9th, 1934. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School with the class of 1953. Randy was always involved with theatre and worked as a technician on "The Common Glory" in Williamsburg the summer before he entered college at Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU). During his summers at RPI, he worked as a Master Technician at the John Drew Theatre in East Hampton, NY. After two years at RPI, he served with the 3rd Army Special Services Unit at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, GA.

Randy married Carol Lash of Virginia Beach in August of 1960 and they set out for New York, where Randy pursued his dream of working as a technician on Broadway. They remained there until 1972, while Randy worked with many shows, the most memorable being "Man of La Mancha". While in NY, he was a member of Ski Patrol and the Nanuet Ambulance Corps.

Returning to Virginia Beach in 1972, he immediately joined the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad and was an active member for 40 years. He was a Life Member, Past Captain and a member of the Board of the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation and continued to server with the Ski Patrol at the Homestead and Wintergreen resorts.

Randy was employed with the City of Virginia Beach as the Operations Supervisor of the Pavilion Convention Center from 1980-1999.

Randy loved sailing on the Chesapeake Bay on his boat "Elusive". He was a member of the Hampton Yacht Club, the Broad Bay Sailing Association, of which he was Past Commodore. He was a Region 2 Vice President of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association. He also served as President of the Board of the Old Coast Guard Station. He was an usher at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church.

He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Carol; son Robert and wife Kimberly Pugh of Chesapeake; daughter Pamela and husband Douglas Wiltshire of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren whom he adored: Jessica Pugh, Nolan, Trudee and Chet Wiltshire; sister-in-laws Ruth Ann Steenburgh (Chuck) of Virginia Beach and Roberta White (Ed) of Moore, SC.

A Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel. Burial will follow at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad at www.vbvrs.org.
