Frances Smith Obituary


Frances B. Smith CHESAPEAKE - Frances B. Smith, 63, of the 2600 block of Hemple St., passed away April 12, 2008, in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 8, 1944, in Courtland, Va., to the late Ruth and Armond Boykins Sr. She was educated in Southampton County Training School, Southampton County, Virginia. Frances was a member of First Baptist Church, Courtland, and a former member of The Way of Truth COGIC. She retired from Norfolk Community Hospital after 25 years of service as an admitting clerk. She was also employed by Family Care Senior Solutions as a home health aide for six years. She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Smith and a brother, William "Bubba" Boykins. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Floyd Smith Sr.; one daughter, Frieda L. Smith Hunter of Chesapeake; one son, Floyd Smith Jr. of Chesapeake; three sisters, Adelaide B. Gilliam, Virginia Hill and Shirley Ford; three brothers, Willie Boykins, Robert Boykins and Armond Boykins Jr.; three grandchildren, Chance L. Hunter, Lamont J. Williams II and Khaleb Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, Courtland. The Rev. Robert Gay will officiate. Interment will be in Helping Hand Cemetery, Courtland. Family and friends will assemble at 2633 Hemple St. at noon for the procession to the church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
