Gerald Ellsworth Mingis, Sr. age 88, of Portsmouth, VA died Monday, June 14, 2021 at his home. Born on August 29, 1932 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Thera Clyde Mingis and Emma Bell Newton Mingis, he was the widower of Barbara Jean Wimberley Mingis. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Mingis retired as a custom home builder.
He is survived by a daughter, Jean M. Mingis of MI; two sons, Gerald E. Mingis, Jr. (Roseann) of MI and Keith A. Mingis of Camden, NC; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings, Thera Clyde Mingis, Jr., Vivian Carlton, Charlotte Tuttle and Thora Mingis.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Churchland Assembly of God, 4209 Twin Pines Rd., Portsmouth, VA with Pastor Larry O'Brien officiating. The family will greet visitors before and after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, P. O. Box 96105, Washington, DC 20090-6105 or the SPCA of Northeastern NC, 102 Enterprise Dr., Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E.
