Juanita R. Slater

Va Beach - Juanita Rose Bischoff Slater died on August 6, 2018, and is now at eternal rest. She was born in Akron, Ohio on April 28, 1926, to Walter L. and Emma L. Brueggemann Bischoff and was raised in Zanesville.

On June 12, 1949, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zanesville, she married Robert W. Slater from nearby New Concord. He had nicknamed her "Peep" as she would be known to her friends.

Peep enjoyed cooking, playing bridge with friends, painting, and collecting antiques, pottery, and baskets.

Surviving are her children: Pam (Jim) Carlton of Dumfries, Martin (Jackie) Slater of Virginia Beach, Brook (Linley) Patterson of Fredericksburg, and Matt (Denise) Slater of Stafford; grandchildren: Cailin Carlton Miller, Alex, and Tom Carlton, Ryan (Christina) Slater, Alaina Patterson, Monica and Elisa Slater; great-granddaughters, Isla and Sloane Miller.

The family would like to thank Pastor Harry Griffith for bringing peace to Mom on his many visits. With deep gratitude and love we express appreciation to Pam Lichtenstein, devoted friend of the family and caregiver/companion to Mom. We thank Jennifer, Heather and Joyce and others with Interim Hospice for aiding in Mom's comfort during her last days. Also, we thank the caring and loving nurses, med techs, aides, and others at Bay Lake Retirement and Assisted Living, and to her special friends, Rose, Jessica, Amy, Lala, Lany, Lisa, Toni, and Charisse.

Peep was predeceased by her husband, parents, sisters, Emma Louise Factor and Ruth Ellen Bischoff, and brothers, Luther L. "Bud" Bischoff, and Harold W. Bischoff.

A visitation will be held 12 noon, Saturday, August 18, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, 1264 North Great Neck Rd, Virginia Beach 23454. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Peep will be laid to rest with her husband Bob at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
