Linda Courts Obituary
Linda Courts

Virginia Beach - Linda Lou Swaringen Courts, 75, passed away in the morning on May 10, 2018. She was with family and transitioned peacefully in her sleep. Linda was predeceased by her loving husband David, who she is finally reunited with, as well as her parents and brothers M.D. and George. Left to honor her memory are her three children, Cathy Weathers, Liana Graham, and Michael Courts, and their spouses Mike, Jason, and Mary. She will live on in the lives of her 14 amazing grandchildren- Clay, Cullan, Connor, Ishiah, Ewing, Solomon, November, Kahlil, Jonah, Lila, Ajah, Elisha, Jasmine, and Olivia. Linda will also live on in the memories of her sisters Bess, Maxine, Carolyn, and Becky, and her brothers Burr, Ben and David, and a multitude of relatives and friends. Linda was born on April 10, 1943 to Marvin Deberry and Mary Francis Swaringen. She graduated from Concord High School and attended Brevard College and UNC Chapel Hill, where she met David. Linda enjoyed life as a mother and homemaker, and fulfilled the challenging role of a Navy wife during David's 28 years of service. Managing a family during a 6 or 9 month deployment was balanced by a deep spiritual faith and strong sense of purpose. Linda completed a crossword puzzle from the newspaper each day, keeping her mind sharp. She loved good southern home-cooking, trivia games, and visits with her sisters. In addition to her family duties, she has contributed her services to Meals-On- Wheels and Tidewater Pastoral Counseling Services.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 19 at 2:00 pm at Community United Methodist Church, located at 1072 Old Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464, where she worshipped and was a member of the United Methodist Women. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any of the following organizations in her memory: the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Community United Methodist Church, the Appalachia Service Project, and The Governor's School for the Arts.
