Monty L. Nichols Sr. Obituary
Monty L. Nichols, Sr.

Knotts Island - Monty L. Nichols, Sr., 62, passed away peacefully in his home Friday August 3, 2018. He was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Zeno G. Nichols, Sr. and Hilda E. Nichols and continued to live in Virginia Beach for 53 years.

From a young age, Monty had a passion for sports. He passed that passion and talent down to his children, where he enjoyed many years of being both their coach and greatest champion in their sporting events, which included baseball, softball and soccer. Watching his children excel at sports brought joy to his heart everyday. Monty also never turned down a good round of golf, always trying to perfect his short game.

After suffering a stroke, he retired from the City of Virginia Beach Department of Automotive Services. He was an honorable and generous man who never let his heart and health conditions become an obstacle. His love for mechanics didn't stop at retirement, he continued tinkering with his things and always welcomed tough projects that family, friends and neighbors knew only he could fix. He was always the go-to man. To know Monty, you knew how much joy working in his yard brought him. He took great pride in having the greenest grass, the best yard in the neighborhood. He always said, "if you're going to do it, do it right."

Monty is survived by his son, Monty L. Nichols, Jr.; daughter, Christina L. Nichols; his granddaughter, Ashlynne S. Kilgore; his brothers, Zeno G. Nichols, Jr.; and Mitchell K. Nichols, Sr.; five nieces, Shannon, Dawn, Cydnee, Harper and Kenley, and three nephews, Mitchell, Tyler, and Kayden.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held in celebration of Monty's life in the coming weeks, as arrangements continue to be finalized. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The . A team page (Team Big Monty, Southside Chapter) has been set up for the 2018 Hampton Roads Heart Walk held on November 3, 2018 at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach, VA.
