Daniel W. Hersh VIRGINIA BEACH - Daniel Wayne Hersh, 54, was killed Sunday morning, April 19, 2009, while riding his bicycle on Shore Drive. He was an avid and experienced rider who made trips from Virginia Beach to Miami and throughout the U.S. After 20 years on the Underwater Demolition Team, Dan retired from the Navy in 1993 and has since worked with civil engineering firms in the Virginia Beach area, including McKim & Creed and most recently RK&K. The son of Wayne and Betty Hersh of Davis, Calif., Dan is survived by his sons, Gregory and Stephen; his mother, Betty; brothers, Richard, Robert, Mark and James; sisters, Judy and Linda; nieces, Angela, Amy, Donna, Darcy and Loni; a nephew, David; and many cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1801 Baltic Ave., Virginia Beach.
