Melodie H. Joseph Obituary
Melodie H. Joseph

Chesapeake - Melodie Huffman Joseph passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 5, 2014, surrounded by her devoted husband, children and close family. Melodie was a retired detective of the Norfolk Police Department with over 24 years of service. She showed great compassion towards victims while ensuring perpetrators were brought to justice, earning her the nickname "Felony Melony." She also devoted her time and service to many philanthropic endeavors including searching the rubble of the Twin Towers following the attack of 9/11. Melodie always served those in need.

She was a loving and caring mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Melodie is predeceased by her father Robert Lee Huffman, Sr. and brother Claude Huffman, retired officer. She is survived by her mother Gladys B. Huffman; husband Maurice "Mo" Joseph, retired investigator and the love of her life; children Ryan Dickerson and his wife Ashley, Alex Joseph, Michael Joseph and Kristin Joseph; granddaughter Harper Grace Dickerson; brothers Robert "Bobby" Huffman, Jr., and Captain David Huffman; sisters Kandi Huffman Rice, and former officer Kay Huffman Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melodie was a strong woman and a beautiful person who had a great love for her country, family and animals. She loved her horses and dogs, especially her bloodhounds. She rescued and found homes for them in various law enforcement agencies along the east coast. Donations and contributions can be made in her memory to Southeastern Bloodhound Rescue or the ALS Virginia Chapter.

The family would like to thank Mo's co-workers at the Department of Defense and federal law enforcement agencies for donating time. Their precious time allowed him to take care of Melodie as she bravely endured ALS.

A memorial service will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 3pm with Chaplain Chris Amos officiating. Condolences may be offered to the family at:
