Roy Lee Fentress Jr

Virginia Beach - Roy Lee Fentress Jr., 63, of Virginia Beach lost his valiant 6-year battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday, April 19.

He was born November 8, 1950, to Roy Fentress Sr. and the late Billie Wilson Fentress in Norfolk. He was a graduate of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach and Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He worked in the agricultural chemical business for 25 years, with part of his career spent at ICON Systems in Raleigh, NC. He most recently worked with his wife Doreen at QTS in Virginia Beach.

Roy loved to travel. He was able to make himself at home anywhere whether he was in New York City or Anna Maria Island, Fla. He enjoyed going to the beach, fishing and being with family and friends many of whom have known him since childhood.

The family would like to thank the caregivers who walked with Roy during his treatment especially the staffs at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Balt., Md., and SVBGH. Dr. Thomas Alberico of Virginia Oncology Associates and Dr. Daniel Leharu of Johns Hopkins provided hope, solutions and excellent medical care to Roy throughout his 6-year battle with cancer.

Roy participated in a number of clinical trials during his battle with pancreatic cancer and his contributions will positively impact pancreatic cancer treatment in the future.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Doreen Pablo Fentress; his father, Roy Lee Fentress Sr. of Bluff City, Tenn.; two sisters Carol Fentress Gunter of Virginia Beach, and Stacy Fentress of Atlanta, Ga.; an incredibly special niece, Erin Gunter Kirkby, her husband Thor Kirkby, and son Holden Lee Kirkby of Baltimore.
