Johanna L. Howell

Chesapeake - Johanna Lovelace Dowling "Jo" Howell was called to her heavenly home on April 26, 2014 with her family by her side.

Born April 19, 1929 in New York, she was the daughter of the late Capt. and Mrs. Peter Dowling and was also predeceased by her brothers, Peter, Irving and Stanley Dowling. Johanna married her true love on November 22, 1947 and remained faithful to each other for 66 years. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. An amazing woman has been lost, however, heaven has gained a beautiful angel. "So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we are far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart".

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Robert O. "Bob" Howell; daughters, Johanna Jones and husband James, Janet Chappell and husband Mike; a son, Robert J. Howell and wife Gail; six grandchildren, Travis, Tiffany, Bryon, Courtney, Bobby and Amanda; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Andrew, Kailey, Christian, MacKenzie, Alex and Kaden; sisters, Rita Campbell, Bertha Hassell and Beulah Johnson; brothers, Jimmy and Jackie Dowling, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory. Friends are also invited to join the family immediately following the visitation at the home of Johanna Jones, 617 Forest Road, Chesapeake.
