Obituary Condolences

Harold David Barbini

Norfolk - After being surrounded by family for weeks, the "magic day" for Harold "Dave" Barbini came on May 7, 2014. Dave was born to the late Eleanor and John Barbini, May 17, 1932 in Lebanon, PA. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and continued working as "Purchasing Agent Extraordinaire" with Best Repair Co. In his earlier days he loved scuba diving and hunting. He was always an avid fisherman, causing fish from Trinidad to Virginia to tremble at his name, and discovering the Outer Banks where he could further engage in his love of fishing was a true joy in his life. His passion for food and cooking was unwavering and we are still chuckling about the day we recently held a surprise picnic in his honor. As his family of 39 began arriving he voiced his concern, wondering "how he was going to feed all of these people"! Dave's beautiful blue eyes twinkled while he reveled in another passion.that of storytelling - he could hold court for hours with a lifetime of tales!

He is predeceased by his sister, Martha. Dave is survived by his amazing wife of 64 years, Clare, and his children: Mary Ann Barbini , David Barbini (Darlene), Jeanne Capistran (Walter), Kay Barbini (Rich Chinappi), Jack Barbini, Barbara Babashanian (Gary), Theresa Barbini Robinson and Anthony Barbini (Sherry Wheeler), as well as 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home at 5792 Greenwich Road on Saturday, May 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. with internment at a later date. The family extends thanks and gratitude for the support from Whitney and Doris with Sentara Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew's Church in Virginia Beach; Sentara Hospice House at 3760 Sentara Way, Virginia Beach, 23452; or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
