Garnett Griffin Cherry
Portsmouth - Garnett Griffin Cherry, 90, passed away on August 15, 2014. Born in Newport News, VA, she was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Alma Petty; first husband, Hugh Griffin, Sr.; second husband, Herbert N. Cherry; son, Hugh Griffin, Jr.; brother, Henry Petty;and an infant daughter. Garnett retired as a sales associate for Rices Nachman / Hess Department store. She was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and the Ruth Bible Class; and the Beazley Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra East Little; son, David Griffin; sister, Virginia Beacham; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 1 PM in Grove Park Baptist Church by the Rev. Scott Pond and Rev. Tom McTeer. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Tuesday from 7-8:30 PM. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com
